Good evening,

Expect lots of people in town over the next few days. It’s Eugene Marathon weekend. A 5K is planned for Saturday and the full and half marathons are Sunday. Organizers expect about 10,000 finishers, 1,500 more than last year. Fewer than 2,000 of the entrants are from Eugene or Springfield. Sarah Lorge Butler has a preview of the event.

Exactly a year after 79-year-old Sharon Schuman was struck by a car and killed on the Amazon Trail, about 50 people gathered near where she died to remember her and her legacy. Schuman’s daughter Rebecca Schuman also said: “It is all of our responsibility to do what we can to stop enabling our loved ones who are in active substance abuse.” Reporter Jaime Adame and photographer Isaac Wasserman were there.

Our election coverage continues: Lillian Schrock-Clevenger previews a ballot measure that would increase the tax levy for Lane Fire Authority, which provides communities such as Santa Clara, Elmira, Noti, Walton, Veneta and Crow with fire and ambulance service.

A stretch of Washington Street was closed for a couple of hours last night, as police responded to a reported stabbing at Washington and 12th Avenue and searched for a suspect. None was found, and the victim was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life threatening, police said. Jaime has the story.
