How You Can Support the Launch of Lookout Eugene-Springfield
Thanks to all our generous supporters, Lookout is now beyond launch and aggressively covering the news of the day in and all around Lane County.
Now as we further expand our ability to report the stories of the day and to get them to more readers throughout the county, we’re glad to announce two new programs worthy of your support.
You can now join your friends and neighbors in supporting the next two growth projects for Lookout Eugene-Springfield.
The Dean Rea Internship Program does two great things. It adds more capacity to our newsroom of 16 to cover more news for you. And it provides a vital new pipeline for the journalists of tomorrow. We’re working closely with the UO School of Journalism and others to match the best potential interns with their professional colleagues here at Lookout. These are paid internships, and we need your help in funding them. We aim to raise $50,000 to support five seven-to-nine-month paid internships for local students (details here).
Lookout for Teachers builds on the great success of our Lookout in the Classroom program, first developed in Santa Cruz, California, and now being rolled out in Lane County. Our aim is to give every middle and high school educator full access to Lookout’s trusted local journalism, plus a robust weekly stream of curriculum-aligned, classroom-ready tools — quizzes, guides, lesson plans and media literacy activities (details here). We aim to raise $192,000 to fund all 1,200 high school and middle school teachers at $160 per teacher per year. That would cover teachers in all of the county’s 16 school districts. Already, thanks to the generosity of the Mehlum Family Foundation, the Baker family, and Dan and Peggy Neal, we’re about a half of the way there.
Please help us fund both of these programs. Thanks in advance for all your help reviving robust, trustworthy local news in Lane County.
