Restaurant inspections

County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Eugene-Springfield reports both those who have passed the inspections and those where the county observed issues that need correction. The county’s full ongoing reports are available here.

• Arby’s Roast Beef at 4252 Main St., passed a county health inspection on Aug. 23 with no issues. (view report)
   
• Subway at 4270 Main St., was cited for issues during a county health inspection on Aug. 23. The restaurant scored 92 out of 100. The inspector found no paper towels at the drive-thru handwashing sink and a broken dispenser in the main prep area, which were fixed during the visit. A worker improperly reused gloves after touching clothing but corrected this immediately. Dark residue was found inside the soft drink nozzles, requiring more frequent cleaning. Jewelry worn by food workers, equipment leaks, broken ceiling tiles, holes in walls, a non-self-closing employee restroom door, improperly dried mops, missing vent covers, rusted shelves, and inadequate lighting in refrigeration areas were also noted and need repair or improvement. • Native Coffee Company Llc at 217 N 42nd St., was cited for issues during a county health inspection on Aug. 23. The restaurant scored 97 out of 100. Inspectors found a spray bottle with toxic chemicals that wasn’t labeled, but it was fixed during the visit. Dead flies on a sticky trap in the kitchen need to be removed more often to prevent buildup. Ice and water buildup inside a mini fridge requires repair or replacement. Lastly, the restroom door’s self-closing mechanism isn’t working and needs to be fixed to ensure it closes properly. (view report)
   
• Palace Coffee & Bakery @ Riverbend at 3355 Riverbend Dr, was cited for issues during a county health inspection on Aug. 23. The restaurant scored 90 out of 100. The inspector found that the dishwasher wasn’t sanitizing dishes properly because it didn’t reach the required temperature of 160°F; this was fixed by the reinspection. Also, the display cooler was not keeping certain foods cold enough (above 41°F), which can be unsafe. The restaurant removed those foods and is monitoring temperatures closely while rotating stock every two hours. Roadwork is affecting traffic near you

• Long-term projects: Construction is happening on 36th Street between Main Street and Commercial Avenue as part of the GO Bond Street Repair Project. Work is expected to finish by September 30. Local residents can still reach their homes, but there will be temporary lane and driveway closures, and some areas will be off-limits to parking. You may notice changes to travel routes, noise, dust, and construction equipment. Notices will be given before any closures.
• Construction on Aspen Street between Centennial Boulevard and Tamarack Street began the week of June 15. Most of the work should be done by September 4, with the whole project finished by October 31.
