Morning Lookout: Why are the LTD Springfield bathrooms closed?

If you are a rider of Lane Transit District and go through the Springfield station, you might have noticed the station’s bathrooms are closed. Ben Botkin has been looking into the reasons behind the closure and has this report.

Recently, Lookout correspondents Lilly St. Angelo and Tyson Alger were mentors at the High School Journalism Institute, a weeklong bootcamp for high school journalists. Lilly worked with Ellie Cowan from Roosevelt High School on this story about Gathering Together Farm.

The Lane County Fair continued through the weekend and Ben made the trip and talked with 14-year-old Ozro Bartlett, who was showing his goat, Billy the Kid. And our Snowden Intern, Leo Heffron, spent a lot of time riding rides and outlined which were his favorite.

I’ve seen several posts on social media mocking Oregon over a proposed ballot measure that would have banned hunting, fishing, livestock farming and animal research. But, as our friends at the Oregon Capital Chronicle report, Initiative Petition 28 did not receive enough signatures to make it onto the ballot.

The Capital Chronicle also reports that the governor-appointed Oregon Climate Action Commission wants to double the goals for capturing and storing additional carbon dioxide each year in the state’s forests, grass, crops and wetlands.

Gubernatorial candidate Christine Drazan came by the Lookout offices last week and had a sit-down with Ben.

And Books With Pictures took home the biggest of awards at last week’s San Diego Comic-Con. The local comic book shop received the Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award, the top prize for comic book stores.
