A 75-year-old Eugene man died after reportedly falling from a watercraft Monday, July 20, in the Willamette River near Clearwater Park and Landing, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said.
Shabbir Ali Kahn Panni died at a local hospital, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Friday.
Eugene Springfield Fire responded at about 4:10 p.m. Monday, with rescuers pulling Panni from the water, the sheriff’s office said.
It’s the second river death this month near Clearwater Park and Landing, just south of Springfield. A 26-year-old paddleboarder, Ervan Lucia, died July 14.
Panni’s death is being reviewed by the Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office, the sheriff’s office said.
