- The fire on Spencer Butte that started yesterday, probably from a lightning strike, was still smoldering, but fire crews had mostly stopped it at about a quarter of an acre and were mopping up hot spots.
- The Eugene City Council heard some details yesterday about the search to replace retiring City Manager Sarah Medary. The search firm the council hired to help find a successor said it expects to start advertising the job later this month and the council should be able to make an offer to a candidate by the end of January.
- Springfield officials unveiled a new 39-unit affordable housing complex on 16th Street. Alma Apartments has special accommodations for seniors, people with disabilities and domestic violence survivors.
