A 38-year-old Springfield man died early Friday, Sept. 5, when the motorcycle he was riding struck a deer on Highway 126 about 15 miles northeast of Springfield, Oregon State Police said.

Lucas Charles Thomas died at the scene at about 3 a.m., state police said. He had been headed east on a Suzuki GXR motorcycle, and the collision caused him to lose control and go down an embankment, state police said.
