A 63-year-old man was charged Monday, Oct. 5, with the rape of a 17-year-old girl at an encampment near a riverside pathway at Skinner Butte Park, according to police and court records.
Kevin Lee Hecht was charged in Lane County Circuit Court.
In addition to first-degree rape, he faces charges of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, first-degree sexual abuse and strangulation. All but the strangulation charge are felonies.
Eugene police responded early Friday, Oct. 2, to a reported sexual assault, according to a news release. The girl and the man had been staying at the same encampment and knew one another, police spokesperson Chelsea Deffenbacher said.
The girl and a witness helped police identify Hecht, Deffenbacher said.
A security bond of $250,000 was set Monday, which requires a payment of 10%, or $25,000, before Hecht can be released from jail.
