A 61-year-old Vida man was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday, Sept. 9, after pleading guilty to five counts of first-degree encouraging child sexual abuse.

Michael Edward Sullivan was charged Jan. 7 in Lane County Circuit Court with 10 counts of the felony charge. Court records show five counts were dismissed Wednesday.

First-degree encouraging child sexual abuse involves “unlawfully and knowingly duplicat[ing] a visual recording of sexually explicit conduct involving a child,” according to the charging document filed by prosecutors. Sullivan duplicated the recordings in 2023 and 2024, according to the document.

Sullivan has another court case pending in Clackamas County, where he has been charged with second-degree online sexual corruption of a child and luring a minor, both felonies. 

The charging document filed by Clackamas County prosecutors states that Sullivan attempted to lure a law enforcement officer posing as a minor in April 2025. His next court hearing in the Clackamas County case is scheduled for Oct. 14.
