Happy September, Lookout readers! I’m back from some time off to visit my dad in rural southern Georgia and I’m ready for the fall arts season. I do need you all to see the pride of Waycross, Georgia: Stuckey, a mummified hunting dog that was trapped and naturally preserved inside a tree back in the 1960s. He is grotesque and cute and I miss him dearly.
But back to Lane County (with a thank you to Mike McInally for taking up this roundup last week), where there’s plenty to do, but no beloved mummified dogs. We have to get on that.

Mayor’s Teen Art Show at Maude Kerns Art Center
The kids are all right… and they’re making so much art! This year’s Mayor’s Teen Art Show exhibit opens this week with a reception featuring Eugene Mayor Kaarin Knudson, as local teens have their artwork in the gallery space through the month of September.
- When: A reception and awards ceremony will take place Friday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. The exhibit itself is on view through Oct. 2.
- Where: Maude Kerns Art Center, at 1910 E. 15th Ave. in Eugene.
- How much: Free to attend. The gallery has a suggested donation of $3 per person or $5 per family.
Heavy hitters at Olsen Run
Olsen Run Comedy Club and Lounge has a stacked September, and I wanted to call out some heavy hitters stopping in Eugene the next few weeks before tickets sell out completely. Two of them are nearly sold out, for next week: Steph Tolev has two shows left with times, on Friday, Sept. 11, and on Saturday, Sept. 12. Gianmarco Soresi has just one show in Eugene with tickets remaining, next Wednesday, Sept. 16. (There is also Rick Glassman, whose podcast I do enjoy from time to time, but Tolev and Soresi are the priority.)
- When: Check each individual show for date and time.
- Where: Olsen Run Comedy Club and Lounge, at 44 E. Seventh Ave. in Eugene.
- How much: Tickets to each of the shows are $38.
‘Spring Awakening’ at Oregon Contemporary Theatre
“God, I dreamed there was an angel / Who could hear me through the wall…”
I’ll admit I had to do some quick Googling to brush up on “Spring Awakening,” the rock musical adaptation of a late 19th century melodrama about German teens coming of age in a repressive society. But I realized I already knew some of it when I heard the opening line of “The Bitch of Living”: angry, fun, spirited, rock and roll. OCT is opening its season with the musical, with live music from Orchestra NEXT underneath the set.
- When: The run opens with a 7:30 p.m. performance Saturday, Sept. 12, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 27. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays. There will be talk-back discussions with the actors starting at 4 p.m. after the Sunday matinee performances.
- Where: Oregon Contemporary Theatre, at 194 W. Broadway in downtown Eugene.
- How much: Tickets are available online at a range of prices, starting at $34.
Coburg Antique and Vintage Fair
It’s time to go antique hunting in Coburg: This weekend marks the 39th annual Coburg Antique and Vintage Fair, with vendor tables lining the streets of downtown Coburg to sell all manner of antiquated goodies. Stop by to window-shop, and leave with something picked out from more than 100 vendor booths.
- When: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13.
- Where: Downtown Coburg
- How much: Free to peruse, but bring money if you want to take home any treasures.
Dana and Alden at WOW Hall
Come see homegrown jazzy boys make good as Eugene-born brother band Dana and Alden play at WOW Hall next week, in support of their new album, “Papa’s Boat.” Eugene Weekly had a great cover story in August about Dana and Alden McWayne’s Eugene roots as their album was released; I’ve seen Alden McWayne on my phone for years as the comedy influencer @gucci_pineapple, but it’s lovely to see the full pivot to music play out.
- When: 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14.
- Where: WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth Ave. in downtown Eugene.
- How much: Tickets are available online and are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the show.
Thievery Corporation at McDonald Theatre
Maybe you’re looking for a different Monday evening concert? This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Washington, D.C., electronic music duo Thievery Corporation’s debut album. The duo of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton is making a stop in Eugene next week, bringing a genre-defying sound to the McDonald.
- When: 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14.
- Where: McDonald Theatre, 1010 Willamette St. in Eugene.
- How much: Tickets are available online, for $56 in advance and $59.50 on the day of the show.

Who doesn’t love cat videos? This annual festival of feline friends on film, CatVideoFest 2026, comes to the Art House this week, if you’re looking to give a hearty round of appaws. (I had to do one cat pun.) Playing at the Art House through Thursday, Sept. 17.
JACQUES DEMY FAN ALERT: Demy’s classic 1964 musical romance “Umbrellas of Cherbourg” or “Les parapluies de Cherbourg” is playing as part of the Art House’s French New Wave series, bringing Catherine Deneuve’s tragic-fashionable character Geneviève to Eugene screens for a week. Playing at the Art House through Thursday, Sept. 17.
Box office
“Practical Magic 2” rides its broomstick into theaters this week, hoping to cast a nostalgic spell over fans of the original sister witch story starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. Playing at Metro Cinemas, Regal Valley River Center and Cinemark Eugene Springfield.
If you enjoyed “Coyote vs. Acme,” how about a very different kind of film from the same screenwriter? “Late Fame” stars Willem Defoe as a New York poet who published one book a long, long time ago, who runs into a group of young creatives who idolize him and push him back into poetry.
