I am tired of the hypocrisy.
It’s interesting which donors get highlighted by local media and which don’t.
Commissioner Heather Buch is in a close reelection race. Her main campaign backers are the trade unions that get hired to build massive tech data centers and who actively advocate for them in public meetings. Meanwhile, in Eugene, residents just fought to stop a data center from taking over the Hynix site. Residents said they need to protect their local water, energy grid and power rates.
Buch is taking massive support from the same groups that are pushing for data center expansion while expecting support from the very community fighting against them. In fact, this campaign cycle she has received nearly $40,000 from them. As a retired union member, I know unions are always trying to influence the politicians.
So where do Buch’s loyalties lie? With East Lane County residents, or with the donors bankrolling her campaign?
Follow the money, and you’ve got your answer.
