I write in strong support of the Eugene Public Library levy.
The old levy, approved by three-quarters of voters in 2020, expires on June 30. The new levy will cost the average Eugene homeowner an extra $18 for a whole year. Even a property valued at $1 million will pay only an extra $40.
Those small increases will help offset the drastic cuts in our library’s general fund that have reduced the acquisition of books and other materials to zero and threaten still more curtailments of hours and services.
The downtown library and its two branches greatly enhance literacy, community engagement and economic life. Please vote yes on the library levy.
