I’m writing as a longtime Eugene community member (30 years in Lane County), small business owner and local employee in support of Jasmine Hatmaker for City Council Ward 5.

I have known Hatmaker since high school, through university and into our professional lives. What stands out is not just her character, but her consistent commitment to doing the work, especially for people who are too often overlooked.

In my own work with underserved communities, I see firsthand how critical it is to have leadership that listens, understands systems and follows through. Hatmaker brings that. Her priorities reflect real, actionable solutions: addressing housing affordability and supply, strengthening support for local small businesses, improving public safety through community-centered approaches and investing in education and workforce pathways.

This isn’t abstract policy to her. I’ve watched Hatmaker advocate for veterans, engage in education initiatives and support small businesses navigating real challenges. She understands that a thriving Eugene requires both economic opportunity and compassionate, practical solutions to complex issues.

Just as importantly, Hatmaker shows up. She listens carefully, engages thoughtfully and is willing to make tough decisions grounded in what’s best for the community — not what’s easiest politically.

Eugene needs leadership that is both principled and pragmatic. Jasmine Hatmaker represents that balance. I trust her to advocate for a Eugene that works for all of us.
