The Eugene Public Library was founded in 1898 as a small reading room, and has been tax supported since 1904. Since the opening of the Carnegie Library Building in 1906, the library has established a legacy of free access for all to lifelong learning opportunities and resources.

For more a hundred years, our library has been a storehouse of knowledge, while the staff serve as advocates for learning.

We have volunteered at the library for more than 20 years. During that time we have had the opportunity to have a close look at the passion that staff bring to their work. Everyone we have encountered feels called to do the important work of bringing the library’s remarkable resources to the public. They feel responsible for making sure the array of materials in the collections fit the needs of a wide variety of patrons.

When we vote to renew the levy to fund the library we are voting for a way our community can continue to encourage all citizens to engage in acquiring knowledge. Informed, knowledgable people increase the livability of our community. It isn’t necessary for a person to have to have a library card to access the library and the knowledge it holds — all you need to do is visit a library branch or access library information online.

All of us, as voting citizens, have long supported a high-quality public library in Eugene.  The renewed levy we are voting on this month will continue that investment in learning, by adding expanded youth oriented services, an addition of two new kiosks for easier access to materials, while maintaining operating hours at all three locations.

Please vote yes for learning.
