Strong convictions don’t need a sharp tongue. They need someone who will work collaboratively while staying true to their values and the best interest of the people who elected them. Ky Fireside proves that. Running for Oregon State Representative in District 7, Fireside fights for working families. For privacy. For health care. But they do it with respect, not condescension, and they have a track record of affecting change.
During the pandemic, Ky joined the Oregon Public Health Corps. They directly helped quarantining students get medical care and financial aid. Working with so many who struggled is why they fight for affordable health care for all.
At Starbucks, they led the unionization fight, submitting National Labor Relations Board filings, testifying in court appearances, fighting for fair pay and workers’ rights. And they got it done.
Then Flock Safety surveillance cameras were installed, threatening to track abortion-seekers and immigrants. But Ky didn’t attack decision-makers. They met with city councilors, the mayor, the police chief, state representatives and U.S. senators. They testified before the Oregon Senate Judiciary Committee. They worked persistently and effectively. And Flock was deactivated.
We need a lawmaker who champions affordable housing, human rights and privacy, without confusing decency for weakness. When I cast my vote, I’ll rest assured knowing I am supporting someone who has walked the walk, not just talked the talk.
Ky Fireside is that lawmaker.
