I was deeply dismayed to read about tort claim records outlining former Lane County counsel Erin Pettigrew’s allegations against Lane County, including a pattern of hostile and misogynist conduct in the workplace by commission Chair David Loveall. It would be great to see Lookout dig a little deeper into this story.

The community deserves a full report on the additional costs involved, for example, attorney fees paid by the county to defend Loveall’s alleged ugly behavior at work.

In these times of nationwide budget cuts, our community needs every dollar to run vital programs that we the people paid for with our taxes. In addition to the monetary costs, there are the hidden costs of a workplace that is hostile to women.

Apparently, nothing has been done to remedy this problem, so it will be up to us, the voters.

Loveall’s seat comes up in the 2026 elections. Local politics matter.
