Updated with information about a suspect in custody.

One person was taken into custody as part of a homicide investigation after a person’s death in south Eugene, police said Thursday, Oct. 1.

In a news release shortly after 1 p.m., Eugene police announced they had detained the suspect.

Earlier Thursday, police asked the public to avoid the 5400 block of Fox Hollow Road, near the intersection with Donald Street. The area is near the southern city limits. No information was immediately released about the person killed.

By 10:30 a.m., the roadway was open to a single lane of traffic as police vehicles flanked both sides of Fox Hollow Road.

Police investigators Thursday morning huddled in front of a home built at a slight downslope on the eastern side of the road. Where the police tape ended, a privacy fence perhaps five feet high running alongside Fox Hollow Road made the property appear even more secluded.

“This is a quiet neighborhood. Beautiful, peaceful,” said Larinda Nelsen, sitting near her husband, Michael, at a picnic table in front of an apartment building on the other side of Fox Hollow Road.
