Because right-wingers keep describing progressive policies as WOKE, I think we need an umbrella term to label their policies. I suggest BROKE. It rhymes with WOKE, connotes failure and is highly adaptable.

For example, it could describe the termination of USAID funding or the freezing of Habitat for Humanity’s assets. It would also be appropriate for the war on science or the refusal to base opinions on facts, as when mischaracterizing January 6 or devising vaccine policy.

In short, I think BROKE (befuddled right-wing onslaught on knowledge and ethics) would be a valuable addition to our political vocabulary.

Just a thought.
