As former mayor of Eugene, I had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life who care about our community. One of the community members I deeply respect is Judy Newman, who is running for re-election to the Eugene 4J School Board.

Judy’s life has been devoted to the welfare of children. She brings both passion and expertise to her leadership on the school board. As mayor, I was grateful for her clear-eyed, steady and thoughtful leadership in navigating the challenges facing the school district.

Our children are our future; and our schools are the heart and core of our investment in their potential and promise. Judy brings to the board 45 years of educational expertise. She is respected as a state leader in education and advocate for children with disabilities. She has partnered with the city and county to bring in support for mental health and financial assistance for students.

School districts face mounting challenges during this tumultuous time. Judy stands up for dignity and the rights of all children and families, and stands strong in the face of federal attacks on our public schools.

We are fortunate to have a person of such integrity, deep experience and strength serving on the 4J board. I urge you to vote for Judy Newman in the May election.
