Three leaders of the Oregon Country Fair will discuss the history and development of the iconic Lane County event at Friday’s meeting of the City Club of Eugene.
The meeting, which is open to the public, is scheduled for noon at the WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth St. in Eugene.
The fair dates to 1969, when it was known as the Oregon Renaissance Fair. Since that beginning, the event has moved to a property west of Veneta and has evolved into a showcase for the arts and a marketplace for food vendors and local artisans. It now attracts more than 45,000 visitors each year.
Speaking at the City Club will be Kirsten Bolton, the fair’s executive director; Paxton Hoag, a member of the fair’s board of directors; and Arna Shaw, the vice president of the board.
Friday’s meeting of the club will be livestreamed on the club’s Facebook and YouTube pages. Rebroadcasts of the meeting are scheduled for KLCC Monday at 7 p.m. and will be available later as an episode of the club’s podcast.
The City Club of Eugene explores significant local, state and national issues and meets most Fridays. (It will not meet on May 23 to mark the Memorial Day weekend.) Its website is cityclubofeugene.org.
