Eugene police said Thursday, Nov. 5, they’re investigating two home burglaries targeting business owners who are Asian.
Thursday, police reported an Oct. 30 burglary in a neighborhood near Harlow Road, with cash and other valuables taken. A resident was asleep inside, police said in a news release.
The most recent announcement follows a news release last week about a similar Oct. 26 home burglary near Barger Drive and a warning from the Asian American Council of Oregon about a rise in such targeted burglaries around Oregon.
Eugene police said the Oct. 30 burglary shares similarities with previous break-ins linked to organized burglary rings from South America.
Four men were convicted in May for their roles in a burglary ring that hit homes in Eugene, Salem and Washington state.
Eugene police have previously said the burglary rings have a pattern of targeting victims believed to store cash and valuables in their homes.
Police in the news release Thursday recommended the installation of hardwired surveillance cameras capable of providing real-time alerts, rather than other camera systems relying on Wi-Fi signals that in past burglaries have been disabled by burglars using jamming devices.
