Bradley Dean Treloggen, 55, has been identified as the man found dead below the street in a residential neighborhood. The sheriff’s office did not release information about how Treloggen may have ended up in the confined space, but said it has no evidence of a crime.

Lane County Sheriff’s Office investigators have found “no indication of a crime” leading up to the death of a 55-year-old man whose body was found in the storm drainage system of a residential Santa Clara neighborhood.

In a statement Monday, Aug. 10, the sheriff’s office said the death of Bradley Dean Treloggen remains under investigation.

Eugene Springfield Fire and the sheriff’s office responded to the intersection of Lantana Avenue and Dahlia Lane after receiving a phone call just after 5:45 a.m. Thursday.

“They saw part of a person sticking out of a manhole,” Sgt. Levi McKenny, a sheriff’s office spokesman, said Thursday, describing the initial report from the citizen.

The sheriff’s office statement Monday did not include any information about how Treloggen possibly ended up below street level in a confined space no more than 3 feet wide. A storm grate normally covers the space where Treloggen was found.

“The investigation is still ongoing, but so far there is no indication of a crime leading up to Treloggen’s death,” the sheriff’s office said Monday. 

Terloggen’s body was taken to the Lane County Morgue, which is under the jurisdiction of the Lane County medical examiner’s office, the sheriff’s office said.

On Thursday a resident told Lookout Eugene-Springfield she saw first responders pull out a man’s body feet first from the storm drainage area.

“It was sad, and it was scary,” said Tammy Nyjordet, adding that the man’s face appeared muddy.
