A kayaker on the Willamette River on Tuesday, May 19, discovered the body of a man later identified as a 62-year-old Junction City resident, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

Wade Felton Lloyd had been reported missing Nov. 20 to Junction City police. His cause of death remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies responded at about 2:10 p.m. after the kayaker found Lloyd’s body along the river’s west bank near river mile 159, north of Harrisburg. Investigators identified Lloyd through tattoos on the body, the sheriff’s office said.

“He appeared to have been in the water for a long time, however they determined there were no signs of trauma or indications of his manner of death,” Junction City Police Chief Mark Waddell said in an email Saturday.

Waddell also said an older, motorized bicycle Lloyd used as his primary means of transportation remains missing. Social media posts described the bicycle as a plum-colored Schwinn model bicycle.

Anyone with information about Lloyd’s disappearance or the bicycle’s whereabouts may call Junction City police at 541-998-1245 and ask to speak with a detective.
