In response to the Lookout Eugene-Springfield Editorial Board’s position on the Eugene Clean Energy Fund, here’s a possible option to make the ballot measure more appealing.
The editorial board said the Eugene City Council should “start a community discussion about diverting at least half of the estimated $15 million annual fund to put it to more immediate needs.”
Would the City Council consider having all of the estimated $15 million annual fund go to the original intent of the measure, then allot half of any amount above the $15 million to other more immediate needs?
The editorial board noted that the Portland Clean Energy Fund is raising much more each year than its supporters thought. If the Eugene Clean Energy Fund also generates more than the estimate, that might satisfy more backers of the ballot measure. Then, sharing half of the extra funds for the clean energy projects and the other half of the extra funds might be more appealing.
