“Oh no, not again!” was my response to Joshua Purvis’s column written to the voters of Springfield about David Loveall. One reason was that it reminded me of 30 years ago, when it was common for people of Eugene to speak as though people from Springfield (“Springtucky,” as they called it) were less enlightened or smart.

The second repeating pattern I noticed was when I felt his column was dismissive and clueless about the importance of morals, tone, style and truthfulness in politicians. Our nation is in serious trouble because millions of people have chosen to ignore or make excuses for a president who is known to treat people poorly, retaliate, lie, engage in corruption, continually sue or threaten to sue and play the victim when held accountable, all while hiding behind religion. Purvis appears to encourage Springfield to take a similar course when evaluating its local representatives.

Purvis needs to be more transparent about what he is actually pushing for without beating around the bush, and show more respect for his intended audience.
