The City Club of Eugene will honor three community members with its Turtle Awards — given to people who have “stuck out their necks to advocate for a cause that others might have seen as lost” — when it gathers for its weekly meeting Friday, May 30.
The club meets at noon at WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth Ave. in Eugene.
This year’s Turtle Award honorees, chosen by a committee of previous winners, are:
- Sharon Posner, a longtime advocate for arts and humanities. She has been active with the League of Women Voters of Lane County, the Eugene Public Library Foundation and the Fortnightly Club, among other organizations.
- Paul Solomon, the former executive director of Sponsors, a nonprofit organization that has won recognition — locally and nationally — as a model for prisoner reentry services. He co-chairs the Governor’s Racial Justice Council on Criminal Justice Reform and Police Accountability and serves on the Governor’s Reentry Council and the University of Oregon’s Institutional Review Board.
- Oblio Stroyman, a licensed marriage and family therapist; diversity, equity and inclusion consultant; and clinical supervisor. Stroyman has been designing and delivering DEI training for public and private organizations since 2006.
In addition, seven community members will join the Order of the Turtle, recognition given posthumously to people who would have been contenders for Turtle Award honors: Dallas Boggs, Nancie Fadeley, David “Frog” Miller, Marshall Peter, Lyllye Reynolds-Parker, Nancy Webber and Anita Johnson.
The club also will elect new board members and give an annual report at the Friday meeting.
Friday’s program will be livestreamed on the City Club’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. City Club programs are rebroadcast Mondays at 7 p.m. on KLCC, 89.7 FM.
