GRANITE CITY, Ill. — The Duck Report is a little different this week.

First, you might have noticed the dateline above. I’m not ready to tell you why I just crossed the Missouri River and pulled into a Flying J parking lot to write this thing — you’ll find out soon enough — but it does mean I’m a little short on material for today’s opener.

Thankfully, I planned ahead.

One of the stories readers have asked me to write over the years is a guide to an Oregon gameday. People ask me all the time about the best hotels, bars, pregame rituals and tailgate spots, and while I do know a lot of things about Oregon, I may be the least qualified person in this state to tell anyone how to properly enjoy an Oregon Ducks football game.

I’ve only seen them from the box. You all are the experts here.

So consider this your call to action. Leading up to kickoff, I’d like to publish a guide based on your recommendations.

What is the best way to experience an Oregon football weekend? Send me your tips, routines, traditions, stories and photos at Tyson@LookoutLocal.com, and together we’ll create the ultimate Oregon Ducks gameday guide.

The U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials are coming back to Eugene.

USA Track & Field and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee announced Monday that Hayward Field will host the 2028 trials June 17-22, 2028, in advance of the Los Angeles Olympics, which begin July 14, 2028.

It will be the sixth consecutive Olympic track and field trials held in Eugene.

This event, however, is slightly different from the ones before.

Starting at No. 2

It’s not just us: The rest of the country thinks the Oregon Ducks are going to be very good in the 2026 college football season.

Two weeks ago, the Ducks were ranked No. 2 in the Coaches Poll. On Monday, Oregon was again picked second in the preseason AP Top 25, the highest preseason ranking in program history.

Ohio State claimed the top spot (it was also No. 1 in the Coaches Poll), with No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 5 Texas rounding out the top five.

Before Monday, Oregon’s highest preseason ranking was No. 3, a spot it held four times: 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2024. The Ducks’ only other preseason top-five ranking came in 2012, when they opened at No. 5.

We took a look at some of the numbers behind Oregon’s No. 2 ranking here.
