Happy Halloween!

As SNAP benefits are set to run out, Lane County residents are worried — about themselves and their neighbors. Ben Botkin spoke with individuals and organizations, neighbors and nonprofits, who are doing what they can to bridge the gap. The Eugene Ballet presents two performances of “Dracula” this weekend at the Hult. The original ballet, choreographed by associate artistic director Suzanne Haag, sees dancers do battle with vampires.

Construction is set to begin next week on Springfield’s Main Street bridge. For now, the road remains open on the 96-year-old structure, but for three weeks in December, the traffic will be rerouted to the South A Street bridge.

Neighbors are helping each other out, and food pantries are bracing for an uptick in demand and putting out calls for help with federal food benefits on track to stop Nov. 1. One meal at a time, Lane County’s network of neighbors, nonprofits and grassroots organizations is gearing up.
