Good evening,
The other day a reader wrote us to say: “This morning I received eight new emails in a short period of time. I expect I will receive more during the day. Is there any way I can get the news in only 2 or 3 emails daily?”
This is a fair question. And the answer is yes! While we do offer many different email newsletters a person might find themselves signed up for, you should be able to go here to manage the emails you receive from us.
But, yes, I will now attempt to give you the day’s news, at least from the last 12 hours, in just this one email.
Ready? Go!
- After it considered hiring a California contractor a few weeks ago to do repair work on City Hall, Springfield is going to reissue its request for proposals for the work. Lillian Schrock-Clevenger reports that the action comes after city councilors heard complaints from local contractors about the process.
- At the same meeting, Lillian reports, the Springfield council also continued to discuss the possible annexation of property that would allow a proposed behavioral health campus to move ahead. Councilors made no decision yet. Mayor Sean VanGordon described the annexation as “fairly complicated.”
- Lane County has accepted a $1.3 million grant to open an addiction treatment center in Florence, Ben Botkin reports. The money comes from national opioid settlements, paid by pharmaceutical companies who were sued for fueling a nationwide opioid crisis.
- The City Club of Eugene has a busy week planned, with three election-related events: a forum with candidates for Senate District 6, which covers much of eastern Lane County; a watch party for Thursday’s gubernatorial debate; and a presentation by the county’s top elections official, Tommy Gong. See Mike McInally’s story for the dates, times and places.
Who’s in our Community Voices section today?
- Springfield resident Tasi Clancy endorses Callee Ackland for City Council, lauding her focus on the concerns of ordinary people: affordability, livability and sustainability.
- Kurt Willcox of Eugene urges his fellow Oregonians to drive electric in an effort to help the state meet its goal to reduce carbon emissions from transportation.
