Good evening,

Tomorrow is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 4 election. Of course, for those of us who live in Eugene, you will not get a ballot this fall because there is nothing to vote on. However, if you live in Springfield, or in the South Lane County Fire & Rescue district, or in the Lane Fire Authority district, you are being asked to consider a property tax levy. And Dunes City residents have a city charter amendment to consider.

Columnist Bob Welch headed out to Alsea Bay with two old friends and a mission: catch a salmon. Go read about how it went.

U.S. Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley were in Eugene today, talking about the government shutdown and the potential spike in Affordable Care Act health insurance premiums, which they said they are holding out against. Ben Botkin was there.

The Eugene Environmental Film Festival kicked off today. It mixes film screenings with “days of action” where you can get out and do something. Annie Aguiar has the details.
