A 51-year-old Eugene man died Monday, June 15, after the vehicle he was driving left Marcola Road and struck several trees north of Springfield, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said.

Daniel Keith Johnsgard died at the scene.

Deputies responded at 11:20 p.m. to the 90000 block of Marcola Road, between Springfield and the unincorporated community of Mohawk.

Johnsgard’s vehicle traveled “a significant distance” off the roadway, and speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. No one else was in the vehicle.

The investigation is continuing, the sheriff’s office said.
