Eugene City Council began discussing how to approach the renewal of the city’s library levy yesterday, which is set to expire next June. The current library levy costs homeowners 15 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. To continue the levy, the council will need to put it to voters in May. Grace Chinowsky reports.
Councilors also heard from the search firm working to recruit a new city manager. The firm has interviewed high-level city staff as well as leaders of other local agencies to understand their priorities as the search begins. Homelessness, the ongoing budget crunch and public safety were frequently mentioned concerns.
