Lane County commissioners voted 3-2 today to call for David Loveall to issue an apology over certain past statements. Loveall vigorously defended himself, though, saying the whole process around the investigation into his interactions with county staff has been unfair and overblown. Ben Botkin has the latest on the Loveall controversy.
The Eugene City Council voted 5-2 today to jettison a proposed “panhandling ban,” which would have made it illegal to hand anything out of a car to a person standing alongside a road, with fines of up to $50 for the driver or passenger. Some councilors seemed skeptical of advocates’ contention that it would improve traffic safety.
A 14-year-old was taken to the hospital last night with life-threatening injuries after reports of gunshots in the Harlow neighborhood of north Eugene. The teen is a student at Monroe Middle School, a 4J official said. Police said the incident was “not a random act” but a dispute among a group of people. Jaime Adame reports.
The City Club of Eugene forum this week will take a look at Oregon’s foster care system.
