Restaurant inspections
County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Eugene-Springfield reports both those who have passed the inspections and those where the county observed issuesthat need correctiont. The county’s full ongoing reports are available here.
- Old Crow Coffee Company – Mu at 6900 Main St., was cited for issues during a county health inspection on Sept. 14. The restaurant scored 95 out of 100. The inspector found that the restaurant was selling foods, like cookies, made at home under the 2023 Cottage Food Rules, which is not allowed. The restaurant corrected this during the inspection by stopping the sale of these homemade foods and will now only buy food from approved sources. They were also provided with information on the Cottage Food Rules to ensure compliance. (view report)
- Old Crow Coffee – Warehouse at 6900 Main St., passed a county health inspection on Sept. 14 with no issues. (view report)
- Torero’s Family Mexican Rest at 5705 Main St., was cited for issues during a county health inspection on Sept. 14. The restaurant scored 94 out of 100. During the inspection, a large container was blocking access to the handwashing sink, which must always be accessible and used only for handwashing; this was corrected immediately. Additionally, three sticky fly traps in the kitchen had dozens of dead flies that were not removed frequently enough; the restaurant was advised to increase removal frequency to prevent pest buildup. Lastly, there was a 3/4-inch gap around the rear kitchen door allowing pest entry; the restaurant must seal such openings to keep insects and rodents out. (view report)
- Subway Sandwiches at 5630 Main St., was cited for issues during a county health inspection on Sept. 14. The restaurant scored 94 out of 100. The inspector found that paper towels were missing at some handwashing sinks but were restocked during the visit. Some ceiling tiles were damaged, discolored, and absorbent, needing replacement with smooth, cleanable tiles. There is a roof leak causing water damage and potential contamination, which must be fixed. A mop was improperly stored and must be air-dried correctly. Two broken ceiling tiles need repair. Lighting in the walk-in freezer, refrigerator, and employee restroom is too dim or absent and must be improved to meet safety standards. (view report)
- Springfield VFW Post 3965 at 5344 Main St. was cited for issues during a county health inspection on Sept. 14. The restaurant scored 95 out of 100. The inspector found that food meant for the restaurant was mixed with personal food in a freezer, which was corrected by dedicating the freezer to personal use only. Food packages were stored under a sink drain pipe, which is not allowed. The kitchen had grease buildup on the hood, dirty floors, and dusty ceilings, all of which required more frequent cleaning. Some floors, walls, and ceilings in storage and kitchen areas were unfinished or damaged and need repair to be smooth and easy to clean. The lighting in the walk-in fridge was too dim, and some light bulbs were unprotected and needed proper shielding. (view report)
