A 74-year-old Springfield woman died Saturday, Oct. 17, in a single-vehicle crash near an Interstate 5 off-ramp just south of Springfield, Oregon State Police said.

Carol Jean King died at the scene, state police said.

King was driving a Toyota RAV4 southbound toward the McVay Highway exit at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday when the vehicle left the curved off-ramp and rolled over, according to a preliminary investigation.

The vehicle, which state police said had been traveling at a high rate of speed, crashed through some trees before catching fire.

Pleasant Hill Goshen Fire & Rescue and Eugene Springfield Fire responded, as did the Oregon Department of Transportation. The crash affected traffic for about 90 minutes, state police said.
