More than 100 protesters turned out in Eugene on Tuesday, Oct. 7 — the second anniversary of Hamas’ deadly attacks on Israel — to march in protest of Israel’s war on Gaza.

The protesters waved flags and signs, yelling chants such as, “Down, down with Israel. Palestine will win.”

Walter Gafforio says he has been protesting Israel’s treatment of Gaza since the 1970s.

“Standing out here with a sign, you could say it doesn’t really do anything. But I think you have to do it, you have to do something,” Gaffario said. “The (Palestinian) people are powerless here. … We need to revolt against the Israeli government here in the United States.”

Scott Fint addressed local involvement in the conflict. He held a sign that read, “Why Wyden Why? Did you again vote for starvation, ethnic cleansing and genocide?” The sign referred to Oregon’s U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden voting against a proposal to stop U.S weapons sales to Israel.

“Wyden has voted with Israel every time,” Fint said. “What he approved … is rifles, and so those might be the same rifles that are killing people looking for food.”
