A male runner in the Eugene Half Marathon collapsed a few feet beyond the finish line in Hayward Field today, shortly after 9 a.m.

Other runners who had just finished the race started screaming for help. Emergency medical staff at the race responded and could be seen performing chest compressions, before removing the man on a stretcher for transport to an area hospital.

Race officials had no immediate update on the man’s condition. At 3:20 p.m. they issued a statement that read, “A half marathon runner collapsed just after crossing the finish line of the Eugene Marathon this morning. He received immediate medical attention on the track from both the Eugene Marathon medical team and Eugene-Springfield Fire before being transported to a nearby hospital.”
