Campers reported they had been chased Thursday, Aug. 14, by an unknown man wielding a pistol at a campground on Peninsula Road east of Fall Creek Lake, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies arrested Randy Kurtis Bounds, 50, on suspicion of unlawfully using a weapon and three counts of misdemeanor menacing.

After the campers fled, deputies responding at about 4 p.m. found Bounds, who matched a description of the man suspected of chasing the people. No injuries were reported and no shots were fired, said Sgt. Tim Wallace with the sheriff’s office.

Deputies detained Bounds and found a pistol. They also arrested a 33-year-old Eugene woman in the area who was wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in municipal court on a trespassing charge.

Update: On Sept. 22, 2025, Bounds pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of unlawfully using a weapon and menacing. He was sentenced to 36 months of probation and 30 days in jail, with his time in custody satisfying the jail sentence.
