I am shameless about how excited I am to add a new journalist to the Lookout Eugene-Springfield newsroom. I enjoy talking with journalists and finding the right fit — for them and us.
It’s also really cool to help someone return home.
I’m very excited to announce that Nick Rohlman has joined Lookout as a photojournalist.

Nick is a Portland native, and it’s great to have another Oregonian join the team.
He attended the University of Iowa and, until last week, worked at the Cedar Rapids Gazette covering everything: corn, Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones, corn, Iowa State Fair (fried butter anyone?), Iowa caucuses, and the college career of a basketball player who flew under the radar: Caitlin Clark.
“I am excited to come back to Oregon and be a part of this growing local newsroom,” Nick said. “After several years in flat Iowa, it’s nice to return to the Cascades, and I look forward to skiing this winter.”
We are super excited to have Nick join the team. He is a certified drone pilot, so expect to see more aerials as part of our coverage.
“If you told 6-year-old me that operating a flying robot would be a part of my job, he wouldn’t have believed you,” Nick said.
He’s not the only new journalist coming to Lookout. We’re interviewing candidates for business and arts/culture correspondent positions, and I look forward to announcing them soon.
