Hundreds gather in Eugene to protest Trump administration
Some 500 people gathered Saturday in downtown Eugene to protest Trump administration actions and policies. It was one of numerous protests across the United States on Saturday.
About 500 people gathered Saturday at the East Eighth Avenue and Pearl Street intersection, one block from the Eugene Saturday Market, to protest the Trump administration’s policies and what organizers of the protest referred to online as the rise of fascism in the United States.
The April 19 “Hands Off” protest was the latest of a series of protests that have taken place in Eugene and other cities throughout the country since President Donald Trump returned to office.
The protest was held by local organizers associated with the “50501” movement, a protest campaign started on Reddit that gets its name from its original goal of holding “50 protests in 50 states on 1 day.”
Previous “Hands Off” protests held by 50501 on April 5 drew thousands of people across the United States and large gatherings in Oregon cities including Eugene, Tigard, Madras, Pendleton, Bend and Portland.
