Two officials from the Oregon Department of Energy will offer an update about efforts to develop a statewide energy strategy at the City Club of Eugene’s meeting Friday, June 27.
The club meets at noon at WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth Ave. The meeting is open to the public and there is no cost to attend.
Friday’s program features Edith Bayer and Alan Zelenka, who will discuss efforts to create the Oregon Energy Strategy. The project aims to evaluate ways to meet the state’s growing demand for energy while achieving climate goals such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
After public comment on the draft report, the final product is scheduled to be presented to Gov. Tina Kotek and state lawmakers by November.
Bayer is the energy policy team lead at the Department of Energy, where she is leading work on developing the energy strategy.
Zelenka’s team at the Department of Energy works on energy efficiency, renewable resources, sustainable transportation, climate change issues and energy planning — including the effort to create the energy strategy. He also is in his fifth term on the Eugene City Council.
The City Club of Eugene explores local, state and national issues, with a focus on new approaches and solutions. Membership is open to all.
Club meetings are livestreamed on the club’s Facebook page and its YouTube channel. Meetings are rebroadcast Mondays at 7 p.m. on KLCC, 89.7 FM.
The club will not meet July 4.
