The Springfield Public Schools Board of Education plans a meeting Friday, Feb. 20, to interview three candidates and then choose one to serve as acting superintendent.

The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the boardroom at the district’s administration building, 640 A. St. The meeting also will be streamed live.

Each candidate is scheduled for a 20-minute interview. A news release Thursday from the district identified the candidates as:

  • Brian Megert, director of special programs for Springfield Public Schools.
  • Ame Beard, principal of the district’s Academy of Arts and Academics, known as A3.
  • Jodi O’Mara, former superintendent of Mapleton School District.

The selected candidate will serve as acting superintendent from March 1 through the end of the school year.

Todd Hamilton, the current superintendent, is resigning amid turmoil, which includes his threat to sue the district and members of the board. At their Feb. 9 meeting, board members agreed to negotiate a resignation agreement with Hamilton.

At this Friday’s meeting, board members also are expected to discuss the process for hiring an interim superintendent who will serve for the 2026-27 school year. The board is expected to launch a search for a permanent superintendent during the next school year.

Assistant Superintendent David Collins announced last August that he planned to resign from the district at the end of the current school year.

The board will not take public comment at Friday’s meeting. Community members who would like to provide comments can do so by emailing board@springfield.k12.or.us.
