An incumbent on the Springfield School Board opened a narrow lead in a tight election contest, while another incumbent won reelection and Amber Langworthy won an open seat.

Jonathan Light, an incumbent member of the Springfield School Board, has extended his lead over challenger Justin Martin in election results updated Thursday afternoon. Another Springfield board incumbent won reelection while Amber Langworthy defeated two opponents to win an open seat.

Meanwhile, Bethel voters elected four unopposed candidates to the school board in Tuesday’s election.

Election turnout was light in Lane County, with 21% of registered voters returning ballots. That percentage could increase as additional ballots arrive at the Lane County Elections Office; ballots that are postmarked by Tuesday and arrive at the office within seven days after Election Day will be counted.

Springfield School Board

Position 3:

In one of the election’s tightest races, incumbent Jonathan Light, the former owner of a family business and a K-12 music teacher, extended his lead to 277 votes over challenger Justin Martin, a health care portfolio manager for Umpqua Bank.

  • Jonathan Light: 3,783 (51.55%)
  • Justin Martin: 3,506 (47.77%)

Position 2:

In Springfield’s Position 2, incumbent Heather Quaas-Annsa, director of philanthropy for Community Supported Shelters, defeated challenger Sarah Bosch, a former kindergarten teacher with experience teaching in Springfield, by more than 2,000 votes. Quaas-Annsa is seeking a full four-year term after being appointed to the board in August 2024.

  • Heather Quaas-Annsa: 4,890 (66.6%)
  • Sarah Bosch: 2,394 (32.6%)

Position 5:

Amber Langworthy, a full-time parent and volunteer for the Trauma Intervention Program, won election to the Position 5 seat over two opponents, Bob Brew, a retired public sector manager and director, and Robert Morgan, production manager for Allan’s Coffee and Tea.

  • Bob Brew: 2,222 (28.50%)
  • Amber Langworthy: 4,387 (56.27%)
  • Robert Morgan: 1,166 (14.96%)

Bethel School Board

Bethel had four uncontested races on its seven-member school board this year. Three incumbents sought reelection, and one newcomer, Brian Hynd, a salesperson for Handcrafted Wines of Oregon, ran to replace longtime board member Paul Jorgensen, who’s retiring.

The Bethel School Board candidates who won reelection Tuesday are Caleb Clark; Ashley Espinoza, the executive director of Lane Workforce Partnership; and Debi Farr, a community outreach and engagement manager for Trillium Community Health Plan.

Here are the unofficial vote totals:

Position 1:

  • Caleb Clark: 2,358 (96.9%)

Position 2:

  • Ashley Espinoza: 2,297 (96.9%)

Position 5:

  • Brian Hynd: 2,515 (97.5%)

Position 7:

  • Debi Farr: 2,435 (96.4%)
