If you have children who are fascinated by big rigs like excavators or fire trucks, chances are good they’ll enjoy a Saturday event that will let them get close enough to touch the machines.

The Junior League of Eugene is hosting “Operation Big Wheels: A Touch-a-Truck Event” Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Masonic Lodge 11, 2777 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Eugene.

The first hour of the event will be quiet and sensory-friendly, the league said in a press release. The last hour, beginning at 3 p.m., will allow the trucks to showcase their loudest noises.

Trucks are coming from Mid-State Industrial Service, Mohawk Valley Fire, B&R Auto Wrecking, Star Rentals, RiverBend Materials, Eugene Police Department, Lockdown Performance and the U.S. Postal Service.

The event also features food trucks, clowns, princesses and a bounce house, among other attractions.

Admission is free. Free parking will be available at the site, but it’s limited. Attendees are encouraged to carpool. Lane Transit District’s Route 13, Centennial, serves the venue.

The Junior League of Eugene, founded in 1962, works on a variety of civic projects and most recently is focused on supporting the population of homeless and at-risk youth in Eugene.
