For five years before I moved to Coburg, I lived in Eugene’s Ward 5. My neighbors and other folks I knew in the district did not support the current city councilor. He seemed too contentious, arrogant and more conservative than we liked. But, somehow, he held on to his position for 20 years and is running yet again.

When a 20-year incumbent continues to hold power and support people and policies that are very unpopular, it’s definitely time for a change.

Recently I had the opportunity to meet Athena Aguiar, Mike Clark’s opponent. I heard her speak to a group, and I had a personal conversation with her. I was very impressed. She is smart. She is informed. She is ready. I hope voters in Ward 5 have taken the time to get to know her and will vote for her.

Eugene is a special place that needs proper guidance going into the future. Aguiar brings new blood and good ideas for solutions that would benefit Eugene.

Let the 20-year incumbent go and vote for a new, authentic and competent city councilor.
