I just read Bob Welch’s column about being an evangelical in the Trump era for the second time. I have also read his book, “Cross Purposes.” Bob’s detailed contrast of observed behavior of Trump and those in his administration, as well as Christians, both in leadership and rank-and-file, perfectly expresses my disbelief and discomfort with the situation as a Christian.

I have read the Bible several times in different translations and have come to the same conclusions about the contrast between Trump’s behaviors and attitudes, and the behaviors and attitudes of those who support him, versus God’s Old Testament laws to the Israelites and Jesus’ commandments about attitude and behavior in the New Testament.

Well said, Bob. We all need to rise to God’s just but loving standards. That’s not weakness — it is integrity and commitment to the highest power in the universe and will bring appropriate outcomes without the divisive selfish hate-mongering currently in vogue.

Mr. Welch spoke truth, clearly and eloquently, citing evidence and not stooping to name calling and character assassination. Thank you, Bob. You spoke to my heart as a Christian (first) and a patriotic American citizen.
