I enjoyed Williams Sullivan’s recent Lookout Eugene-Springfield about snowshoeing. I have cleared hiking and snowshoe trails for more than eight years, and it is important to note for those who might wish to inquire further about volunteer opportunities in the Willamette National Forest that the current organization doing this work is Cascade Volunteers, which includes the former High Cascade Forest Volunteers that ended in 2019, as well as several other organizations.
Cascade Volunteers is the nonprofit volunteer arm of the Willamette National Forest. Their web page states, “We work to connect individuals and communities to the Willamette National Forest and adjacent public lands through programs, stewardship, and education. We train volunteers to educate forest visitors, maintain trails, identify invasive species, use chainsaws, and more.”
Cascade Volunteers now encompasses a wide variety of groups and welcomes volunteers! They may be found at cascadevols.org.
