This November, Springfield voters face a clear choice when they decide whether to support a renewal and increase of the city’s fire levy. A yes vote supports the firefighters who protect our homes and families every day. A no vote risks longer response times, fewer crews on duty and more strain on the people we count on in emergencies.

Our firefighters run toward danger so the rest of us don’t have to. Renewing this levy ensures they have the staffing, training and equipment to keep doing their jobs safely and effectively. The proposed rate is $0.53 per $1,000 of assessed value, or approximately $100 per year for a typical Springfield home. The modest increase of 15 cents over the current levy reflects the rising cost of doing business, and helps the department keep pace with inflation without cutting essential services.

This renewal isn’t about adding new programs or expanding government. It’s about maintaining the essential services that keep Springfield safe and strong.

Let’s do our part for the people who do so much for us. Please join me in voting yes to renew the Springfield fire levy.
