Bob Welch nailed it: The popcorn at Autzen has gone from “stadium treat” to “is this Styrofoam?”

But here’s the kicker: pre-2020, Autzen actually had world-class popcorn. There was one magical stand on the south side, run by local cheerleaders, and all they served was fresh popcorn with real butter. That’s it. And it was glorious. We’d skip halftime bathroom runs just to stand in that line because it was that much better than the bagged filler everywhere else. Honestly, it was the best play-calling in the stadium some Saturdays.

As a UO alum, native Oregonian and season ticket holder who now treks in from Nevada, I can say with full confidence: Bring back that popcorn stand and fans will cheer louder than they do for “Shout.”

Oh, and while we’re at it, bring back the giant Oregon corn dog, too. Some traditions deserve their own statue.
