It was such fun to remember Bill Morrisette, former Springfield mayor, state legislator and teacher, as I read Mark Baker’s story April 17.

I was reminded of the time when during a late afternoon rush hour, my small retail store was filled with a lot of loud banging as someone continued to push on a one-way entry door. When he finally got into the store filled with customers, everyone heard Wild Bill’s voice. “Dammit, Eilers, what does it take to get into this place?” he said.

I answered loud enough for all to hear: “Same thing that got you into city hall, Mr. Mayor. A little bit of pull.”

Bill shook my hand and gave me two points for that one!

Yea, Bill was a colorful, valuable part of Springfield’s history.
